Hérault Valley wine contest

An annual event, the Hérault Valley wine contest is now in its 22nd year. Recognized as a prestigious competition for some time now, its goal is to promote the best products from the Hérault Valley, and introduce them to the public, awarding medals to the winners.

Over the years this event has become a must for wine growers in the area, and the competition and its awards - a guarantee of quality - eagerly awaited each year by professionals and consumers alike.

Initially created in 1985 in the framework of the INITIATIVE 42 charter, the Hérault Valley municipal Community took over its organisation several years ago. The wine competition is intended for private wineries and cooperatives in the area of Gignac, Aniane and Clermont l’Hérault, which can enter red, white and rosé wines, whether AOC or local wine.

Two key moments in a long-awaited event

The Wine competition takes place in two main stages: first the winetasting stage and then a prize giving evening.

- Winetasting

Winetasting

A winetasting is organised for the wines entered for the competition at Gignac Agricultural College, under the watchful eye of a court bailiff. The members of the jury (wine professionals, journalists, restaurant owners or simply wine enthusiasts) meet for a half-day to blind taste the products presented by the wineries. Medals (gold, silver and bronze) are awarded to the most deserving wines. One or a number of « grand prix » (one per colour) will be awarded among the gold medal winners.

- The prize-giving evening

The Competition prize list is officially announced during a prestigious evening. Producers, participants, professionals from the supply chain, members of the jury, the media and elected representatives discover who the winners are during a gourmet meal accompanied by the winning wines. Exchange, conviviality and surprise are the keynotes of the evening!

Producers, cooperatives, join the prize winners!

The Hérault Valley municipal Community invites all the private wineries and cooperatives to compete. The steady increase in the number of wineries that participate testifies to the degree to which the competition has taken root in the area!

The winners of the competition are actively promoted each year: an edition of the wine map, distributed in 25,000 copies, an advertising campaign with inserts in the local and specialised press, the prize list published on line, and advertising stickers placed on the winning products.
