The Community Council

The Community Council constitutes the heart of democratic and decision-making power in the Hérault Valley municipal Community, which it is responsible for administering.

It is responsible for voting the budget, community projects and major legal acts (land purchasing, large public markets…), and decides on the general orientation and policies of the institution.

The Community Council is obliged to convene a meeting at least once every quarter to discuss the important matters of the municipal Community.

The same operational rules apply to the municipal Community as to municipal Councils of over 3,500 inhabitants. It may also decide to delegate part of its functions to the Chairman or to the Committee.

The Hérault Valley municipal Community Council is made up of 44 full members and 44 deputy members, elected by the municipal Councils of the 28 member municipalities, in accordance with the municipal Community statutes.

Each decision is subject to discussion and must obtain a majority to be passed.

The missions of the Community Council are to:
- regulate all business related to public undertakings
- deal with all administrative acts

Community Council sessions, like those of the municipal Councils, are public.
