Situated along the road to Compostela, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, le Pont du Diable, the Hérault Gorges and Clamouse Cave are exceptional sites and important components in the development of tourism in the Hérault Valley.
Villages with meandering streets, circulade villages, winegrowers’ villages, potters’ villages and castle villages testify to the identity of this area, shaped by man and by the Hérault river.
On January 1st 2007, the municipal Community handed over the organisation and development of tourism to an Industrial and Commercial Public Undertaking: The Intercommunal Tourist Office for Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and the Hérault Valley.
In accordance with the wishes of the elected representatives, the status of this Undertaking combines socio-professionals in tourism and elected representatives to form a management committee. While management of the Intercommunal Tourist Office now comes under public finance, its rules of operation are those of a business, thus strengthening cooperation between all those engaged in tourism in the area.
This new status can lead, in the medium term, to setting up commercial activities, such as creating tourist products, organising a central reservation service etc. [OTI main office.jpg]
As from 2009, the Intercommunal Tourist Office, as project manager for tourist action initiated by the Hérault Valley municipal Community, will be entrusted with management of the entire tourist plan for the area collectively known as the « Grand Site Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert / Hérault Gorges ».
